Band founder and leader Michael Roberts, known musically as "Me'Gale Roberts", began playing the bass guitar professionally in 1964 in Springfield, Illinois. His musical interest focused on Jazz, Blues and R&B. He played in a number of cities throughout the state of Illinois with several different bands. His musical career took him to cities such as Chicago, Miami, Detroit, Memphis, New York City, and St. Louis, Missouri. He has played with musical greats such as Donnie Hathaway, Millie Jackson, Phil Drisco, Albert King, and the original performers of "Love Jones – theBrighter Side of Darkness".
In 1980 Me'Gale moved to the Pacific Northwest, settling in
Portland, Oregon, continuing his musical career, and it is here that he joined Obo Addy in 1996 as the bass guitar player for his African Jazz Band Kukrudu. Obo Addy is a Wonche Priest of the Ga culture and a master drummer from West Ghana, Africa.
In 1997 he founded his current band OCEAN 503 with a continuing focus on Jazz, Blues and R&B. Me'Gale's love for and extensive understanding of music keeps the band to its charge and always moving forward full force with recognizable and memorable music.
Me'Gale‟s other musical accomplishments also include: writing lyrics and music; instructing; extensive travel throughout the North American
continent with Obo Addy, Ocean 503, and other groups; managing and booking groups; creator and manager of MR Sound Company, Portland, Oregon; sound technician. He has been using and is endorsed by "Bag End Bass Gear‟ consistently since 1994, and recently by "Moog Music‟ for the "Little Phatty Stage II‟.
